Sample Winter Guided Tour – Banditos at the Border

Summary

Escape the winter sleet and snow and join the Kosher Sherpa for a week-long tour of Southeast Arizona! It’s regularly over 100 degrees here in the summer, but during our winter trip expect generally dry weather with daily highs in the mid- to high-60s.  There’s something for everyone on this trip, from guided mine tours to re-enacted Old West shootouts to ghost towns.

 

Nuts and Bolts

Tour includes:

  • Coordination of RV rental
  • Coordination of Hotel reservations and shuttle to RV rental facility
  • Planned Route & Itinerary
  • Detailed Trip Logs: Turn-By-Turn Instructions
  • Use of one set of fleishig cookware
  • Use of one fleishig grill and propane supply

Tour does not include:

  • Transportation to and from Tuscon, Arizona
  • Sunday night hotel cost (group rate discount TBD)
  • RV rental cost (roughly $500)
  • Admission and Camping Fees where applicable (see below)

Sunday

  • Arrive in Tuscon, AZ
  • Overnight at local hotel ($)

Monday

  • Pickup RV, overview of RV use
  • Guided bus tour of the world’s largest military aircraft storage facility (over 4000 aircraft from all military branches) ($)
  • Guided tour of modern open-pit copper mining and processing facility ($)
  • Camp at Tuscon-area campground with full hookups (water, electric, sewer) ($)

Tuesday

  • Discover Javalinas and other desert mammals, desert plants, reptiles, and more at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum ($)
  • Browsing/Shopping at an Arizona artist’s colony
  • Camp on Federal Land in the Sonoran Desert
  • Campfire with S’mores and cowboy songs (wildfire risk level permitting)
  • Optional observational astronomy program with telescope

Wednesday

  • Optional sunrise wildlife stroll with photography instruction
  • Visit a ghost town founded in the 1880s, then abandoned in the 1970s
  • Visit Tombstone, Arizona, with re-enactment of the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral ($ for some attractions)
  • Underground mine train tour of a 1890s copper mine ($)
  • Camp at wildlife preserve marsh, see group landing of thousands of Sandhill Cranes

Thursday

  • Optional sunrise wildlife watch (group takeoff of thousands of Sandhill Cranes) with photography instruction
  • Visit Chiricahua National Monument, optional shuttle to Masai Point with downhill return hike ($)
  • Camp at Tuscon-area campground with full hookups (water, electric, sewer) ($)

Friday

  • Return RVs and farewell
  • Start/Finish location: Tuscon, AZ
  • Cost: $600 per family
  • Total Distance: 450 miles
